Uniting up-to-minute craftsmanship and technology with original furry ideas, 40 outfits will jazz up the evening at the InterContinental Hong Kong on 7 January 2010.

The competition has attracted enthusiastic participation from local young talents. This year 329 sketches were submitted, of which 26 form the Full Fur Category and 14 will be in the Fur Combination Category. They will vie for several prizes, the Commercial Award and the Best Sketch Award. 

For the first time the organizer, the Young Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Fur Federation, has launched a Facebook fan page for the competition where visitors can vote for their favourite fur design sketch online. 

The inspirational ideas and efforts from the young Hong Kong fur design generation are already bearing fruit. Last year, the champion of was awarded the Gold Prize at REMIX, the International Fur Design Competition in Milan - an acknowledgement of Hong Kong's ingenious creativity and craftsmanship.
 
This year, the judging panel is comprised of the Consul-General of the Consulate General of Royal Danish in the HKSAR, Mr. Jørgen Møllegaard; International Marketing Director of the North American Fur Association, Ms.  Diane Benedetti; Director of Cyril Murkin (HK) Ltd, Mr. Timothy Everest; Marketing Director of the Saga Furs for Hong Kong, China and Korea, Ms. Nora Tse; fashion designers Ms. Lu Lu Cheung and Mr. Dorian Ho; famous artist Ms. Pat Ha, and socialites Ms. Florinda Ho and Mr. Andrew Yuen.

‘Galaxy Superstar' - the theme of this year's presentation - revisits the divine clubbing and party mood of the 80s, and will present competing designs in four stunning scenes. Leading the parade will be ‘Righteous', where pastel fur designs in soft silhouette and layered styling emanate a gentle and romantic ambience. The second scene ‘Radical' will be wacky, exciting and cool; featuring fun and versatile fur fashion. The third scene features some rock and roll with ‘Beat Box' and its funky and hard-core fur ensembles. The climax will come at the final ‘Hype' scene - a massive wild party with music and excitement.

Adding enchantment to the contest this year is the "Designers Love Fur" epilogue, to be held as the grand finale. In the limelight will be renowned Hong Kong designers Ms. Bonita Cheung, Mr. Arthur Lam, Mr. Richard Li, Mr. Walter Ma, Ms. Hidy Ng, Mr. William Tang, Mr. Benny Yeung, and Mr. Kevin Yeung, who will present their inspiring collections manufactured by members of the Hong Kong Fur Federation.

Every year, the Hong Kong Fur Design Competition has received enthusiastic support from lecturers and students of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Institute of Textiles and Clothing, the Hong Kong Design Institute's Department of Fashion and Textiles, the Clothing Industry Training Authority's Department of Design and Manufacture and the Caritas Bianchi College of Careers' Department of Fashion and Textiles, as well as members of the Hong Kong Fur Federation.
