Everything points toward recovery: The Russian and East European clothing market has refuelled and is returning slowly but surely with new strength.

The 14th CPM – Collection Première Moscow, East Europe's leading international fashion fair, ended on Saturday after four days (24 to 27 February) with a plus of seven percent in visitor numbers compared to February and six percent compared to the September event.  More than 17,200 professional buyers informed themselves and ordered, according to preliminary calculations, at CPM, which is considered to be an important indicator for the current market situation in the region.

More convincing than the numbers, however, was the mood in the exhibition halls: The four days of the trade fair were characterized by good deals, the emergence of new business contacts and the unchanged high quality of visitors, who consistently rated CPM highly.

Approximately 1,200 labels (+20 percent compared to September 2009) from 30 countries utilized CPM as a platform to present their fashion for Autumn/Winter 2010/2011.  As usual, the displayed offerings were multifaceted: Women's, men's and children's fashion, lingerie, leather and fur garments, bridal and evening fashion, young fashion, casual fashion and accessories were ordered by the buyers at CPM en masse.  Almost every exhibitor headed home Saturday evening satisfied.

"We acquired twelve new customers and are of course very happy," exclaimed Jan Heitmann, export manager at Bugatti.  "Particularly the second day of the fair was excellent, and the basic mood was very positive throughout the fair.  CPM is indispensable for the development of the Russian market.  No question, then, that we will be here again in September."

A similar assessment was made by Volkan Atik, member of the board at the Turkish clothing association I.T.K.I.B: "Our exhibitors are very pleased.  All of the 52 Turkish companies that participated have committed to do so again in September.  We already booked more space this time than ever before since the very first CPM, but would like to expand even more in September based on the requests from our companies."

The Italian exhibitors recognise a clear upward trend in the Russian clothing market: "A year ago the ordering behaviour of the buyers left much to be desired; in September it was noticeably better – but this time around the fair showed an additional, very positive development," summarised Marisa Pizziolo of Ente Moda Italia (E.M.I.). "The visitors not only looked, but also ordered vigorously on all four days. This has been a really good fair for the Italian labels."

"The Russian clothing market is recovering noticeably – this was apparent based on the business done by the German exhibitors. Experts are predicting lasting growth again beginning next year," explained Philipp Kronen, managing director of the Igedo Company, which organises the fair. "Once again, buyers travelled to Moscow from the entire CIS to do their business.  For them, CPM is a fixed date in their calendars.  This powerful loyalty creates the most advantageous circumstances for the further development of CPM according to the needs and wishes of our exhibitors and visitors."

CPM – Collection Première Moscow is considered to be the most important industry platform for the East European fashion industry.  Launched in September 2003 with 350 labels and 7,500 visitors, the fair has seen a powerful multiplication of these numbers.  The growth of the fair shows how important CPM is to buyers looking for new distribution partners for the East European market, and also utilize the fair as a source for ideas and inspiration, as well as an opportunity to maintain already existing contacts.

The 15th edition of CPM – Collection Première Moscow takes place from 6 to 9 September 2010, and the 16th CPM from 22 to 25 February 2011 at the Expocentre Fairgrounds in Moscow.
