“Training for higher Productivity and Competitiveness and avoiding Staff Lay-Offs during the Down Turn”
When the Economic Downturn started to get into full swing, TTCMSO took up the challenge and proposed a Training Project called STAL-Project (Streamlining, Training, Avoiding Lay-Offs) to OSMEP, the Office of SME Promotion. Now TTCMSO has been awarded to start the STAL-Project and to finalize it in May 2010. The STAL-Project will train SME’s in the Textile and Garment Sector to help them through extremely difficult times. Simultaneously it will establish a strategic management platform which SME’s (but larger companies as well) should develop to survive now and to grow at the end of the Down Turn Tunnel.

During the STAL-Project 35 Textile / Garment Companies will be process audited to discover where further training and education is required to let them improve their Business and Manufacturing Processes, (Total Factor Productivity - TFP) and not least their Marketing, CR, Product-mix and Organizational and, very important, their IT-approach. The outcome of the Process Audit will qualify and quantify each of the 35 Companies’ existing and targeted Performance Standard and will deliver, where Skill gaps have to be closed through Training. An international Industry Benchmark Status on Training and Performance will also play an important role in the STAL-Project.

As gaps will be different from Company to Company, an individual focused and cost free Training Program for each of the 35 participating companies will be generated and carried through in each participating Company during the STAL-Project. Finally the results of the STAL-Project and it’s benefits for the future Move, Direction and Strategy for an Textile/Garment SME (and the Industry) will be presented and discussed in a public Textile / Garment Forum.

Following up the STAL-Project, which is to be seen as a Role-Model, Companies can take own initiatives to follow individually for own arrangements to run through such Enhancement Program individually gaining or regaining leadership and enhanced competitiveness in an international market place which is getting more competitive by the day. One more reason why the benchmark mentioned above is needed.

Tools being employed and implemented by TTCMSO during the STAL-Project are mainly the highly recommended TTCMSO Process Audit, the Germany originating and Textile/Garment adapted TTCMSO-Benchmarking Tool, the Canada originating THRC/TTCMSO Textile Training Through Technology Program covering Manufacturing, Engineering and Management of the total Textile / Garment Value Chain. The delivery of the STAL-Project sponsored for the 35 participating Companies by OSMEP will be supported by around 10 lecturers of Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi and by around up to 10 Textile/Garment Expert Staff from the BISD (Bureau of Industrial Sectors Development). The Project has started on 01.12.2009. Companies wanting to join this extraordinary opportunity are asked to contact TTCMSO, Khun Pannida This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
