The September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair achieved a milestone in 2009 by becoming the world’s biggest jewellery fair. The Fair is held in two world-class venues – the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) and the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) with the total exhibition space over 120,000 square metres, giving exhibitors ample space to meet their needs. This year, the Fair will feature over 3,100 exhibitors from 44 countries and regions and it is expected to attract over 39,000 trade visitors from 140 countries and regions. The increasing number of overseas participants, as seen over the past few years, confirms the Fair’s ever-growing popularity on the world stage.
What’s new
• The 2009 Fair received positive feedback from exhibitors such that by February 2010, all group pavilions have rebooked exhibition space. These group pavilions represent companies from Antwerp, Brazil, China, Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United States, and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA).
• In 2009, AWE featured the largest-ever Diamond Pavilion in any trade show. This year, in addition to groups from the Antwerp World Diamond Center and the Israel Diamond Institute, a group of diamond exhibitors from the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India will exhibit in the Diamond Pavilion, making the pavilion even bigger and more exciting.
• About 90 percent of diamond, gemstone and pearl exhibitors in AWE have already reserved their exhibition space for this year, reflecting their confidence in the Fair.
• In yet another sign of the exhibitors’ confidence, the Fine Gem Pavilion, which made its debut last year, is already fully booked as of February 2010.
• The Packaging, Tools & Equipment section in Hall 11 of AWE received good response from exhibitors at last year’s Fair. All space is also already fully booked for 2010, and many companies are on the waiting list.
• India is the Pavilion of the Year this 2010. Over 130 Indian exhibitors will take part in the Fair, thoroughly showcasing India’s unique style of finished jewellery and high-quality jewellery raw materials.
• The Designer Avenue, formerly known as the Creation Zone – Designer’s Section, is tailor-made for budding designers to launch their jewellery on the world stage. Located in Mezzanine 2 of the HKCEC, Designer Avenue will this year feature more jewellery designers who will showcase to the world their original creations.
• Jewellery accessories are indispensable in manufacturing jewellery. To give exhibitors in HKCEC a chance to shop for jewellery accessories, some exhibitors of jewellery accessories will be located in Hall 5D of HKCEC, while the rest will be in AWE. Exhibitors of jewellery accessories can have the choice being in either the AWE or HKCEC.
• Pearl Jewellery & Finished Jewellery section is a new addition to Hall 5E of HKCEC. The section will showcase fresh water pearl jewellery, gemset jewellery, jade jewellery and stainless steel jewellery, etc.
