No sooner than the final dress of Sunshine @ Headquarter closed the six-day, Elle Fashion Week 2007 Autumn/Winter, fashionistas are getting ready for the brighter, bolder take on design by local talent for the Elle Fashion Week 2008 Spring/Summer at CentralWorld, which will kick off in 10 days.
Unlike its predecessor, this year will feature favourites like Senada Theory, Sretsis and Kloset Red Carpet, all of whom were absent from last February's first Elle event.
Three other fashion houses who will follow their Autumn/Winter 2007 slot with a summer collection on the same catwalk are couture master Kai, hip streetwear giant 27 Friday and Zenithorial, while last year's young designer Tipayaphongpoosanaphong will celebrate the launch of his Siam Centre shop with a full collection for the summer.
AB-Normal and Hook's by Prapakas will also delight the younger fashion crowd. The most-anticipated show, however, is likely to be Asava, the collaboration between Thailand's fashion guru/personal stylist Polpat Asavaprapha, and Maruwut Buranasilpin of Spooknic, former right-hand man of Senada's Chanita Preechawitayakul.
Elle's summer runway also seems to be extremely vibrant and feminine with designers looking for inspiration from anything as close to local tradition as day colours and as far as Africa, Paris and the Mediterranean, with reference points spanning from the 1920s to the modern age.
Two brands will resurrect the shape and spirit of the roaring '20s: Sretsis and Tipayaphongpoosanaphong. The quirky and ever-flamboyant Sretsis marries the 1920s signature flapper dresses with a modern twist in a higher hemline with Thailand's sawatdiraksa concept - or the seven colours that represent the seven days of a week - to create a colourful, feminine and fun-loving collection.
Tipayaphongpoosanaphong's nod to the era, however, is more specific. He looks back at Paris in the 1920s to capture the feeling of having fun in a secret place, as epitomised in Paris' hang-out venue, Speakeasy. Couture patterns, geometry and cabaret are thrown together to create his trademark chic couture-streetwear collection.
Senada also looks for inspiration from nearby European shores with the collection titled Let's Dance/Mediterranean, which blends together the maximum volume and floaty texture of flamingo skirts achieved by heavy layering and pleats of chiffon while the brand's trademark Oriental and patterned prints remain there to delight loyal fans.
Kloset Red Carpet and 27 Friday seem to have taken a flight to Africa for inspirations.
Known for its elaborate show and extensive clothing details, 27 Friday's take on African culture will come in hand-made details. Kloset Red Carpet's Sweet Desert collection will combine the brand's signature feminine shape and handmade details with Egyptian and Moroccan influence.
Lesser in number when compared to Elle's main Autumn/Winter event, the Spring/Summer fashion fest is not to be missed for those who watch to steal latest tips and styles for the hot season.
